Liz, McKinley and I decided to take a little drive up into the upper panhandle of Idaho. I did some research
and found that there was a National Wildlife Refuge. It was about an hour and a half drive from Coeur D'Alene. It is a beautiful park. Its right outside Bonners Ferry. And about 25 miles from the Canadian Border. We enjoyed the park and some little hikes and loved seeing the wildlife. Liz spotted almost all of them before i did. She is getting good at seeing them before me. She is turning into a little mountain woman.
We saw: 3 Moose, 4 coyotes, a fox, a wolf ( 2nd one we have seen in 2 weeks ), some elk, white tail deer, a sand hill crane, lots of ducks and lots of birds.
McKinley enjoyed the animals and of course the waterfall and watching the river roar under our feet. She was fun as usual on the trip. She seems to know when people are saying things about her, she looks at them and smiles. She met more people than we did on the trip.
We started out by going to the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge and then we had lunch in Bonners Ferry at a little hole in the wall local cafe. It was pretty good. We were planning on going camping a few miles north of Bonners Ferry, but McKinley was starting to realize that she needed her bed and her glow worm and was starting to get a little cranky, so we decided to not do the Tent thing, she does dictate things and we are ok with that. Then we drove to Sand Point and looked around an antiques shop and came home. Put Little Peanut down for a nap and then made a campfire in our backyard and had hot dogs and smore's. Liz found these huge marshmallows at the store, they are huge. Liz and I had a contest of who could fit one in their mouth, i won, but as Liz says, I have a big mouth. We had a very enjoyable day.
McKinley enjoying the drive.
Here is the sign for the Refuge.
This is what the area looks like. Lots of water and marshes.
This is the first animal we saw. It was running away from something.
This is a coyote that we also saw.
