The other day our landlord told us that if we had time to get out on Saturday, that we should go on a Scenic drive. He came over later and gave us a few magazines and brochures about where to go. We chose a place that was not far from our house and we had a blast. We decided to take a homemade continental breakfast. We had hard boiled eggs, blue berry muffins, apple slices, grapes, orange juice, and chocolate milk. We ate on the side of the road at this great overlook that was above some huge horse ranches.
On the trip we stopped at a National Historic Marker. Liz and I both love history and we enjoyed learning about this guy named Captain John Mullan. He helped the Pioneers by building a wagon trail from Montana to the a navigable part of the Columbia River.

We then got on to the White Pine Scenic By-way.
Right when we turned off the freeway to the highway we saw the domesticated Elk farm. This family raises elk like cows. They raise them for meat, the skins/leather and for the antlers and other items. They also offer sleigh rides during the winter. We are for sure going to do that since we have done that in Utah a few times.

One the way up to where we had breakfast we saw a big moose across from us on a river, we did not have the camera ready and it ran off before we could get a photo. We then were driving up past a beautiful lake with big meadows and Liz saw a wolf on the side of road laying in the grass. I thought it was a coyote or a dog, so we turned around and sure enough it was a wolf. And i made a big mistake and tried to get out of the car to get a better picture and it started to run away fast, i was so mad at myself. But it was a wolf. It looked like the wolf on Dances with Wolves. So Liz named it 2 socks.
We also saw a Great Blue Heron, a Osprey, and 2 Bald Eagles. The Osprey was flying so low that i thought was going to hit the car as we were driving, but it landed about 3 feet from the road. It was huge. There are lots of nesting Ospreys around the Coeur d'Alene area. We really had a fun time on this drive. McKinley was great the whole time, she liked seeing the animals and feeling the wind on her face. I loved smelling the pine trees and watching the animals. We will go on that drive again.
